LATE DAY: Wednesday ROOM 3143 Contact information: [email protected]
Parents and students welcome to the Food and Nutrition class web site!
I am very excited to begin the first semester of the school year and I am looking forward to working with all of you as we progress through the year. I have designed this web site to be an interactive and helpful tool for both parents and students. This webpage is evolving and is designed to be a resource and communication tool for students and parents. Through this website you will be able to access information relating to class expectations, grading policy, lab and safety rules, food preparation units and the various recipes the students will be creating in the class room. You will also be able to contact me and submit your own healthy family recipes which the students may be able to prepare in class.
Throughout the semester students will learn about the importance of good nutrition and be encouraged to make wise food choices which will contribute to a nutritious diet, and a lifetime of healthy eating. Students will also enhance their skills in the kitchen learning the basics of food preparation, measuring techniques, proper use of kitchen equipment, kitchen safety and sanitation procedures.
This course will consist of weekly kitchen labs as well as lectures and class work focusing on nutrition and the importance of eating a healthy well-balanced diet in accordance with the MyPlate dietary guidelines.
Please visit the "Contact Tab" to submit a family recipe for the student's Heritage project, where students will be preparing and sharing family recipes with the class. All students are encouraged to submit and share recipes and a brief history of why or how this recipe became a tradition in their families. Please feel free to contact me using this page or by email if you have any concerns or questions,
Best wishes for a successful year!
